Search engine optimization is not dead! In every case I have seen, even the most basic optimisation has increased a site's ranking in Google and MSN Search. It never fails because 99% of sites or pages within a site are not optimised in any way. People are in too much of a hurry, too busy or don't know anything about it.
Even by writing your page title and headline using the keywords you are targeting will improve your chances of ranking higher. Don't waste words by not thinking about what you are doing. Make it interesting for your readers but THINK about what the search engines like to see as well.
